Study On Wu Zixu's Thought

This thesis is a comprehensive study on Wu Zixu's thought.Wu Zixu was a very important historical figure in the late Spring and Autumn Period time,whose personality was distinctive and prominent and whose thought was rich and complicated,having achievements both in the theory and application of government of country and those of operations of war.Therefore,it is quite academically meaningful to study on Wu Zixu's thought comprehensively.This thesis studies on the background of Wu Zixu's thought first,then expounds comprehensively on it from politics(including ethics of faithfulness and piety)side and military side and compares it with Sun Wu's and Fan li's briefly.Last, it comments on the Wu Zixu's thought based on the conclusion of its features.In the mid-and late Spring and Autumn Period time,with the rising of Wu families in Chu State,changes of geopolitical relationship in states' contending for hegemony and regional diffusion of Chu culture,Wu and Yue areas became the places of gathering thought,which just were the family,geopolitical and cultural backgrounds of the forming of Wu Zixu's thought.In respect of political thought,Wu Zixu's concept of faithfulness and piety provides the construction of political ethics with ideological resources for later times and his government of country,judgment on suitable monarchs and methods of selecting assets have unique features.This thesis,based on the facts of Wu Zixu's revenge and faithful admonitions in history and according to the early main comments on the facts,points out the features and influences of Wu Zixu's concept of faithfulness and piety.It also,according to comments on Gailu and Wu Zixu's practices of the government of Wu State,discusses on Wu Zixu's people-basic thought which is his thought of governing country.Besides,it analyzes the reasons of both failures and successes in judging suitable monarchs and those in selecting assets.In respect of military thought,Wu Zixu's strategic designs,tactical applications and thought of battle on water and city defense all contribute a lot.Gailu,as a systemic book of art of war, mainly reflects Wu Zixu's military thought.Firstly,this thesis,based on the geopolitical relationships,proves the rationality of Wu Zixu's strategies of attacking Chu State and annihilating Yue State,and on the basic of which it summarizes the main features of his strategic thought secondly.Thirdly,it studies on Wu Zixu's thought of battle on water and city defense from the angle of operational means' regional features and changes of times. Fourthly,it summarizes Wu Zixu's flexibly tactical means in different wars and the thought of Bing Yin Yang and military strategy in Gailu by interpreting it.Finally,it chooses Sun Wu and Fan li who lived almost as in the same area and in the same times as Wu Zixu and compares Wu Zixu's thought with theirs briefly in order to study its connotation and position further.In conclusion,Wu Zixu's thought,with rich connotation,is an organic whole that aims at government of country and operations of war.It,which is deeply marked with the features of the age and the region,is also the epitome of the development of thought in south China in the late Spring and Autumn Period time.
