Since China's reform and opening-up policy, a large number of Western works on China began to receive national attention to the academic. We have a lot of translation and introduction of these works followed by scholars between the two sides become more frequent communication and exchanges, such a situation has enriched our understanding of the latest academic achievements of the West, and make our own views and attitudes can be introduced into Western society. The breadth and depth of the exchanges have been improved greatly. But on the other hand, such exchanges have also affected our own greatly. Some ideas of Western have begun to internalize the idea in the minds of our own.Jonathan Spence is riding this trend to our country, his views of Chinese history and his idea of history stirred up great controversy in China. By studying the basis of these arguments, this paper attempts to analyse his study of China systematically and hope to get a more comprehensive point of view.This article attempts to analyze three aspects of Jonathan Spence's Chinese Studies. First, this article summarized and summed up the Jonathan Spence's study about the history of China on the specific research results. Second, this paper want to analyse Jonathan Spence's unique narrative style and compare this style with the China's current atmosphere of "Joking history" .Third, combinatng the theory of the evolution of Western historiography, I will make a detailed analysis of his view of history and his methods to research history...
