As is known to all, China has entered an era of fast development and created a miracle in economic field in the process of globalization. Following the frequent communication between China and outside world, our nation is more and more involved in the international affairs, especially in business activities. With the expansion of the economic and commercial cooperation, the cultural environment for the intercultural communication has become more complicated. People have different value systems, way of thinking and mode of behavior in different cultures, which greatly affects business activities, and even determines the result. Therefore, the cultural factors have been emphasized. Although traditional business teaching has been concerned in the cultural factors, it is inclined to pay much attention to business knowledge and skills to do business, which fails to achieve teaching goals due to the neglect of intercultural communication competence. As a result, in the process of Business English teaching, apart from the cultivation of business skills, we should attach more importance to intercultural communication. In the past, intercultural communication theories were for the most part applied into FLT teaching and Business English teaching is less guided by intercultural communication theories. As a matter of fact, the application of cross-cultural communication theories to the teaching of Business English in the context of Chinese universities should be conducted in such a way that students are able to learn that Chinese and Western cultures exist as different systems, and to understand the fundamental ideas governing the respective cultural entities. By comparison and analysis, business cultural differences are studied at the higher level of cultural thinking.Totally speaking, this thesis tries to answer the following questions: firstly, why should we teach and learn Business English from the intercultural communication perspective?Secondly, on what levels should we analyse the cultural differences that are closely related with Business English learning and teaching? Thirdly, after having a master of what we should learn, then how should we develop cultural awareness and improve communication competence? As for the first question, the author studies the history of study on intercultural communication and Business English, pointing out the drawback of the previous study. Then the author makes an analysis of the interrelationship among language, culture and communication and then gives an analysis of intercultural communication competence and its categories, which makes us easily understand why we should pay attention to it in Business English teaching and learning. In chapter Three, the author answers the second question and explains the cultural differences at four levels, including value differences that form the core of communication, verbal level, nonverbal level and business negotiation. Answering this question, the author shifts the attention to how to improve intercultural communication competence, divided into three aspects: the first is in daily Business English teaching, the quality of the teachers and teaching techniques are introduced. The second is to talk about Business English learning, in which students should improve the ability from the psychological perspective and learning skills are mentioned. The third answers the questions by activities in which case methods of teaching are introduced.
