On School Setting,self-handicapping is very common.Self-handicapping is a avoidant strategy,which people in order to enhance the opportunity to externalize failure and internalize success,facing the threat of possible failure before the performance setting,set up obstacles for their own action in advance to meet the purpose of self-protection or self-improvement.The study on self-handicapping have great success in foreign coutries,however,there are few research in domestic.Based on the previous literatures,the research aims to invesitigate the characteristic and situation of self-handicapping,and to study the relationship among perfectionism,achievement goal orientation and self-handicapping of college students.It accumulates information and provides reference date for self-handicapping and its related factors.The study provides theoretical basis and new ideas for reducing the self-handicapping of college Students.The study which used cluster random sampling method select 745 effective participants,who are from the universities of Hebei Normal University,Huihua College,Hebei Medical University,Shijiazhuang University of Economics.The scales include the revised scale of Self-handicapping,Chinese version of Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale and Achievement Goal Orientation scale.The study have examined the population characteristics of perfectionism,achievement goal orientation and self-handicapping.Finally, combined the three factors to construct the model which effect the college Students' Self-handicapping factors.The main conclusions are as follows:1.The indicators of reliability and validity of the revised scale of self-handicapping are in line with the requirements of psychometrics.2.Analysis of variance show:the self-handicapping of college students is in general a bit more under the middle level,but there are still 39.6 percent of the students whose self-handicapping score are higher.3.There are significant differences between subject categories.Gender and subject categories have interaction effect significantly on self-handicapping.In male students,liberal arts students have significantly higher score than science students.In liberal arts students,male students have significantly higher score than female students.The gender broght about significant difference in both the total score of perfectionism and one of its dimension-concern about mistakes.Male students are higher than female students in them.The birthplace broght about significant difference in personal standards.Students from village have higher score than who from town and city.The gender and grade brought about significant difference in organization.Female students have higher score on organization than male students;the freshmen have higher score on organization than Junior college students and undergraduate students.Performance-approach and mastery-approach goal orientation have significant difference in grade.Female students have higher score than male students on both of them.Performance-avoid goal orientation have significant difference in gender,subjects and grade.Males have higher score on the dimersion than females,and art have significant higher score than science students,undergraduate students have higher score than freshmen.4.There was positive relation between perfectionism and self-handicapping.The dimensions,concern about mistakes,doubt of action,personal standards and parental expectation of perfectionism have positive correlate with self-handicapping significantly;the dimension of organization has negative correlate with self-handicapping significantly. Performance-approach and performance-avoid and mastery-avoid goal orientation have positive correlate with self-handicapping significantly;Mastery-approach goal orientation has negative correlate with self-handicapping significantly.5.Performance-approach goal orientation played the complete intermediary role between perfectionism and self-handicapping.performance-avoid and mastery-avoid and mastery-approach goal orientation played the part intermediary role between perfectionism and self-handicapping.
