The Status And Role Of Chinese Traditional Culture In The Process Of Modernization

The issue that the status and role of Chinese traditional culture in the process of China's modernization,has become the focus of attention in academia.From the reality level,this paper comprehensively analyzes the status and role of Chinese traditional culture in the process of modernization.Then it stresses to obtain the national spirit from Chinese traditional culture,and to make contribution to the modernization with powerful driving force and spiritual force.This paper is divided into three parts.The first part defines the concept of the traditional culture by interpreting the different provisions and statements of ancient and modern scholars on culture.Accordingly,this part discusses the basic spirit and the basic characteristics of Chinese traditional culture from multi-angle and multi-dimension.The second part discusses the relationship between modernization and Chinese traditional culture.Then,it analyzes point of views of the overall recognition and the total negation about the role of Chinese traditional culture in the modernization as well as perspectives of the New Confucianism overseas.Then,on the premise of this theory and combining with the cultural enlightenment on the economic growth of "Asia's Four Little Dragons",this part studies the dialectical relationship between modernization and Chinese traditional culture by analyzing the practice of modernization,using the basic point of views of dialectical materialism.The third part focuses on the status and role of Chinese traditional culture in the process of modernization.From the nature of modernization and specificities of China's modernization,this part discusses that Chinese traditional culture is the cultural foundation in the process of modernization.Focusing on the rich spirit resources and cultural resources of Chinese traditional culture,this part emphasizes the status of Chinese traditional culture in the process of modernization;explains that people-oriented and humanistic concept of universal love and mutual benefit are common principles in the process of modernization;discusses that the compatible spirit favoring morals and encouraging freedom of speech with thing are the precedent of opening consciousness in the course of modernization;suggests that the mean course, such as drawing but different and listening to both sides but choosing the middle course, is to modernize the beginning of the plain discriminating thought in the course. Accordingly,this part studies the status and role of Chinese traditional culture in the process of modernization from the active aspect;points out that Chinese traditional culture is the intellectual impetus and morality origin and development in the course of modernization from the macroscopic perspective;expounds that Chinese traditional culture,including the vigorous the gumption promising,constantly striving to become stronger and misery consciousness,is the powerful driving force in the course of modernization from the microscopic point of view.Therefore,we must realize that Chinese traditional culture is sufficiently valuable in promoting the course of modernization and that we should innovative unceasingly and develop additionally for the modernization of our country.
