Zheng Chouyu is a famous poet in Taiwan.He is deeply loved by readers with his distinctive melancholy style.He has repeatedly elected as the most popular writer in Taiwan.His poems embody modernism and traditionalism,with the characteristics of bold and unconstrained,graceful and restrained.The various outside forms of his poems do not conceal the flavour of Buddhism which runs through the whole process of his poetry production.This paper attempts to give a systematic interpretation of Zheng Chouyu's poems composed from 50's to 90's from the perspective of sentiment of Buddhism and theme of capricious concept,which will offer readers a new angle to perceive the occult of his poems and can make up for gaps in this aspect.Part one illustrates the relationship between Buddhism and poetry by summarizing the spread of Buddhism in China and its impact on the history of Chinese literature,especially on poetry.Part two anylizes Buddhism sentiment hiden in Zheng Chouyu's poems by interpreting poetry texts which show his sentimentalism,landscape portrayal and emotional expression.Part three tidies Zheng Chouyu's late poems systematically and analyzes the intellectual aesthetics different from that of his early works.In conclusion part,a summary of the reasons for the popularity of Zheng Chouyu's poems is given and some poetic inspirations is obtained.
