Study On Confucius' Thought Of "Filial Piety" And Modern Value

Founded by Confucius, the idea of "filial piety" takes an extremely important position in Confucianism. It is the most important one among moral system taking "benevolence" as the core and "Li" the framework, also it refers to the fundamental scope of ethics--norms on father-and-son relationship. Unique to China patriarchal social system, "filial piety" is inevitably doomed to go through the process of religious worship of ancestors to the family ethics and to the political ethics. Development of culture system has gradually given the more profound meaning of filial piety and more comprehensive practice standards.Confucius' "filial piety" thinking has precisely followed such a development line, from "The Analects of Confucius" to the "Book of Filial Piety", and to "Bai Hu Tong Yi", in which the thinking of "filial piety" is fully discussed. Yet along with neoteric and contemporary criticism on traditional culture and disappear fertile soil for nationalism, as a concentrated expression of the old moral filial piety is fading out the vision of modern culture and its binding force upon ethical conduct of people today is increasingly weakening.In recent years, with the deepening of reform and opening up, development of market economy, some social issues highlight, and traditional Chinese and Western cultural comparative study deepens, thus leads to the increasing of voices on succession of the traditional culture of ethnic and moral. Remodeling today's norms on filial piety is both the ideological and ethical preparation for our country's entering an aging society also one of the essential means in construction of a harmonious society.
