The Distinctive Sight Among The Northeast Writers

Confronted with the controversal issue of how to define the relationship of XiaoHong with the group of writers of Northeast China (GWNC), based on the synthesis of traditional and modern point of views, the author of this thesis puts forward her own opinion—belonging to GWNC and surpassing them. She tries to find the right position for Xiao Hong and elaborats Xiao Hong's signaficance and value to the GWNC and the history of contemporary Chinese literature.The thesis consists of three parts.In Part I, the author of the thesis discusses in the view of the theme of the Anti-Japanese War (the War). We should not separate the theme of the War from Xiao Hong'writing. Unlike what some learners pointed out, her writings were not alienated from the era and the mainstream. However, other writers of the GWNC, who, regarding saving the nation from distinction as their tenet, described the War directly and wrote it as their topics. In contrast with them, Xiao Hong gave a side discription to the War, viewing it as a sub-theme and connected the tenet of saving the nation with the standpoint of enlightment. Within the fixed frame of Anti-Japanes War literature, she sought out a unique way and approached closer to the theme of saving the nation from extinction from the angle of self-strengthening, which expanded the writing space for the GWNC and improved their writing characters as a whole.In Part II, the author of the thesis elaborates in the view of the theme of her hometown. In the Northeast image consisting of the folks, the sceneries and the custom of the homwtown, in contrast to other writers of GWNC who chose to write about the positive and uptrend side of the Northeast Sprirt, Xiao Hong wrote more about the negetive and downtrend side of it. She disclosed the reason of chronic diseae of the society throught her calm observation and started the theme of enlightment.In Part III, the author discusses in the view of the theme of feminie. In contrast to the writers of GWNC who built their images of manly females and romantic relationship of lovers according to the males'imagination and their expectation to females, Xiao Hong observed the existence misery of females based on sex defference disregarding such factors as the era, the class and the nation. She used such words as"inconsiderable","cowardly","fatuous","numb"and even"hardhearted"to describe females, clearing up the traditional characters of females as"gentle"and"virtuous". Xiao Hong destructed the expectation for the characters of females of the time as"perseverent","brave","unbending"and"intrepid". Meanwhile, she broke all the fantancies of people for love with sad and dreary relationship of love between man and woman.
