Abstract/Summary:
Chi Zijian is unique among women writers in the contemporary literary world. When the majority of women writers toil away at the creation of the city life as the theme, Chi Zijian has chosen to construct his own art world on the background of the culture of a specific region—the north of China. Even if she touches on the theme of city life by chance, what she concentrates on are the workers who are struggling on the margin of urban and rural areas. She has always been fascinated with the description of the local customs and practices in the north, committed herself to the discovery of good and evil of human nature, and placed emphasis on return to the bottom of society and observation of unimportant persons. This article is to analyze the images of"marginal men"as described by Chi Zijian and the strategies she applied in her narration, based on"marginal men"as a breakthrough, and the three aspects of narrative perspective of"margin", the story arrangement of"interruption"and the implication of facing the darkness of death.
