This thesis discusses how to use the English film to promote students' ICC.The paper at first tackles the relations between video teaching, foreign language teaching and ICC: English, as a lingua franca, has taken the role of international communication tool; then the international communication in English involves both native-nonnative and nonnative-nonnative discourse participants (Alptekin, 2002). Therefore, fostering EFL learners' ICC ought to become the aim of English teaching in China. Based on the Input Hypothesis of Krashen, Affective Hypothesis, Context Theory and Communicative Language Teaching etc, video teaching, incorporating these activities of watching, listening and speaking, is helpful to the learner's English thinking mode, his comprehension of real communicative language and improvement of his ICC.Then the author conducted an experiment of utilizing videos to promote students' ICC. The statistical result from the experiment suggests that video teaching favors the ICC enhancement. Analysis has been done also based on a questionnaire of 16 items. The result showed that the students had positive attitudes to video teaching. Most of them view this method as an effective way in advancing CA (cultural awareness) as well as fostering ICC. According to the statistical analyses and the survey, some activities and techniques are provided for the teacher on how to improve learners' ICC with videos.
