San Mao was a quite popular Chinese women writer in the 1970s and 1980s. She traveled thousands of miles and wrote lots of well-known works through hard searching. Taking a panoramic view of San Mao's whole life, her immigrant identity made her sensitive and good at observation. What's more, her metal illness in her childhood made her wander outside the mainstream society. She pursued her own values. When she grew up, she traveled everywhere, searched for the dream olive, which made her become a spirit rover. She was a traitor of the family and society. She had conscious sense of life and was not willing to lead an ordinary life. She went wandering in the remote area with a pious sentiment to fate. Her 'non-mainstream people' identity resulted in her unique perspective of her writings, and her works has unique aesthetic character.Based on the texts, this paper analyzes the aesthetic character of San Mao's works from these four aspects: the multi-cultural reflection, the wandering feelings, the tragic connotation, and the natural narrative art.Part One is about the multi-cultural reflection of San Mao's works. Owing to the special life experience, San Mao's writing was deeply influenced by the culture of Chinese Ru and Dao, as well as the culture of Christian. With the reflection of the multi-cultures, we can see that San Mao's works shows the characteristics of authentic, unconventional and fraternity.Part Two is about San Mao's wandering feelings of her works. She began her roving in order to seek the freedom and confirm the value of her own life. She recorded her life with her pen, which is made up of more than 20 pieces of works. Through these articles, we can understand San Mao's yearning for the beauty of nature, human and humanity.Part Three is about the tragic connotation of San Mao's works. Her Utopian pursuit doomed her search is a tragedy. Because of the deviation between the ideal and the reality, San Mao's works has authentic and paranoid nostalgia of her style, and shows strong sense of loneliness and death.Part Four is about the natural narrative art of San Mao's works. San Mao is a writer with unique personality. Her personality decided her creative writing. Her self-highlighting writing state of mind, combination of virtual and actual writing style, natural and faithful narrative language, all that made her works display clearly San Mao-style.As a literary woman, San Mao is not a master. However, her writing is filled with pure faith and an ordinary woman's extraordinary pursue for the ideal realm of life. Her writing has unique perspective and free and easy language, it has unique aesthetic character. San Mao didn't find her ideal spiritual home during her short lifetime. However, through large quantity of works, she left the future generation a profound philosophical proposition-about life. This is right the meaning of San Mao's world and the attraction of her works.
