Li Rui is one of the great talents with deep thoughts who has his own particular style of writing in the contemporary literary world. He is not only the backbone of the writers, the main force in Shanxi, and an important figure in the country, but also the concern of the international literary scene. After Su Tong and Ye Zhaoyan, he has raised the baton of "repeating the myth". In recent years academic research were more focused on his individual works, so there was less comprehensive and systematical study on his creative process and his creative characteristics, and more on the narrative discourse and the critical dimensions of culture instead. The purpose of this paper is an attempt on Li Rui's novels' creation based on The Thick Layer and The Tree of the Palm so as to have a particular analysis and finally reveal its own unique spirit. The paper is divided into four parts. The first part narrates Li Rui's life career around the time of writing the novel The Thick Layer, and tells us his novel writing process, change and the meanings of his change in style. The second part deals with the impact of The Thick Layer, the role of self-consciousness and the characteristics of The Thick Layer. The third part is mainly focused on the creation of The Tree of the Palm. Li Rui isn't one who wants to repeat himself. He always wants to go beyond the previous, so his view of language has changed after The Thick Layer. After an attempt on "The description is everything" , he wants to go further in his novel The Tree of the Palm. This consciousness of art not only makes a contribution to his profound statements, but also to his success in narrative technique. It is truly engraved on the bones and heart and also extremely condensed outside. The last part pays more attention to "oral statements" and "language consciousness" in order to discuss the unique meanings of the novel. Li Rui has a deep interest in the theory, which is not only embodied in his creation of the novel but also in the process of exploring "language consciousness" in "Chinese writing" . It is indeed valuable to a contemporary writer.
