Listening is widely recognized as the basis of communication. During the listening procedure, the input of the information plays an overwhelming role. During the teaching activities, there's not enough emphasis laid on this, which causes many problems in the students of middle school students.Lacking in the overall consideration towards the whole procedure, the teachers often neglect the problems and thus can't provide a practical schema for them. During the research, students express their fear and reluctance towards listening, which also proves that the input of the information has a great influence over listening comprehension.Based on the phenomena present, this thesis carries out the analyses and explores the possible causes. It combines different theories together concerning psychology, linguistics, pragmatics, cognitive linguistics and listening strategies. Taking all the aspects into consideration, the thesis provides solutions aimed both at the teachers and students. The following activities are carried out to improve the students' listening via reading, listening, speaking and writing. A two-year teaching experiment is conducted with application of different teaching strategies. The data of the final two tests prove that these teaching activities are applicable and effective in listening teaching. Students show more interest in listening and likewise the comprehensive language abilities are improved too.To sum up, if more emphasis is laid on the input of information and various effective teaching ways are adopted, listening abilities of the students can be greatly improved,...
