Interaction is a very important factor which affects online instruction, and also an important factor in English reading process. In online English reading instruction, it is far from enough to simply design the learning contents, and then let learners carry out autonomous learning. Interaction must be represented throughout the process of instructional design, implementation and evaluation so as to promote learner-content interaction, learner-instructor interaction and learner-learner interaction. By creating a College English Reading course based on Moodle, and designing, implementing and evaluating interaction in one unit of the course, this paper finally put forward an interaction model for online English reading instruction. The model includes three stages, namely, the design stage, implementation stage and evaluation stage. The design stage is done from three aspects, which are learner-content interaction, learner-instructor interaction and learner-learner interaction. The implementation of interactive activities is further divided into four stages, which are the preparing stage, self-study stage, collaborative interaction stage and learning outcome assessment stage. The evaluation stage includes formative evaluation and summative evaluation. The formative evaluation is done throughout the design and implementation process, while the summative evaluation is done from three aspects, which are learner-content interaction, learner-instructor interaction and learner-learner interaction. Finally, some detailed explanations about the practical application of the model are given.
