The design is the bridge that connects merchandise and culture. It not only has its economic meaning but also has its cultural meaning. As a young thing, how does Public Art Design face the world and the times while keeping the nation feature is the chief problem that Chinese art design should face. How to get to the development road that contains the facts of the active the Chinese Art, how to be affirmed as a special one and how to show the Chinese deeply and lively feature, all above that mentioned is a question for discussion of the new culture that the times put forward to us.The thesis do a all-around and aborative research to the problem of Chinese traditional culture in the Public Art Design. The author tries to find out the immanent relation between Chinese traditional culture and Public Art Design and put forward to seeing traditional culture as a creation headspring and to developing some theories and ideas of Chinese Public Art Design. The author hopes the action could supply some valuable information for the scholars that study Public Art Design.There are five parts in the thesis: 1. exordium, 2. Chinese Public Art Design, 3. The Chinese Public Art Design, 4. The relationship between Public Art Design and Chinese traditional Culture, 5. the use and inspire of Chinese traditional culture in Public Art Design.With the development of the times, Chinese Public Art Design has been looking after a new design language. As the basic stand of the research, the thesis, at the basis of theory appraisal to the concept of the Public Art Design, the thesis summaried the development skeleton Chinese Public Art Design and analysed the features of the development during different stages. It nails down four basic idiosyncrasies including nationality, times, functionality and aesthetics.China has 5000 years history. It contains lots of wonderful things. The thesis nails down the concept of the traditional culture. The thesis sets forth the Chinese traditional central ideas of Confucianism and Taoism. It introduced the main facts of Chinese traditional culture including Chinese character facts, colorful facts of Five Color System", and some kind figure patterns.At the same time, the thesis analyses the immanent relations between the Modern Art Design and Chinese traditional cultures. The thesis first tried out the ordinary rules, then explored the relations between culture and design, at the basis of the information, the thesis studied the relationship between Public Art Design and the Chinese traditional culture. That is to say, traditional art is the foundation of Public Art Design, Art Design is a part of the traditional culture connotation and a express way that makes culture upgrade to the philosophic field. Both of them are the relationship of effect one another, harmony one another and conjunct develop.At last, the thesis explored the problems of the Chinese traditional culture's use in Public Art Design. In the thesis, the author analyses some idiographic fields of the Public Art Design that are very representational to the use of the traditional culture, such as the field of advertisement design, the field of sign design, packaging design and so on. At the same time, the thesis set forth some inspires that traditional cultures bring some design ideas and design method to the Public Art Design.
