The dialect of Luotian , Hubei province, is the writer's native tongue, belonging to Jianghuai's dialect. This thesis puts emphasis on progressive marker"zai(在)"and continious marker"dao(倒)", investigating several grammatical forms composed of the two aspect markers, and meanwhile studies their grammatical meanings, using conditions,differences among them and the origins.This thesis consists of four sections. Section 1 simply introduces Luotian county'geography and history , then reviews the previous studies on the aspect in Mandarin Chinese and the grammatical studies in Luotian dialect. The last part of the introduction elaborates the content and approach of this study.Section 2 describes the progressive aspect of the verbs in Luotian dialect in detail. It describes many grammatical forms which express progressive meanings, especially studying the aspect markers"zai(在)"and"zai de(在的)"and their origins.Section 3 analyses some grammatical forms which express continious meanings in Luotian dialect, and studies grammatical forms composed of"dao(倒)"besides of"dao(倒)"and"zai(在)". Finally, it explains the origin of"dao(倒)".The last section summarizes the whole paper.
