A study on the film art of Mira Nair, the well-known Indian female director, whose film Monsoon Wedding, won award The Golden Lion for best picture at Venice Film Festival. Based on the analysis on the three films such as Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love, Vanity Fair, and Monsoon Wedding, my study try to explore the realistic meanings, the artistic style, the philosophic ideas of this female Indian artist. This is an interdisciplinary study on film. My study will first focus on the historical and Social background of Indian cinema; and then to the basic national characteristics of Indian films, and the life on Indian women as well as the life of Mira Nair. Based on the theories of female study, my study will interpret the themes of such as sexuality, gender roles, and matrimony. Then make a comparison with the feminist movies of Chinese female director Ning Ying, which put forward the defects and shortcomings of feminist movies of Ning Ying, for example, the thick and weak female image in feminist movies , the blurriness of female consciousness, the disadvantages of gender narrative, shortcomings of feminist movie stories and the enlightenment which Mira.Nair's feminist movies take us. Finally, the paper sum up the success and the learning significance for Ning Ying feminist movies of Mira.Nair's feminist movies. The paper abundant in the domestic research in Indian movies, then make a deeply interpret and analyze on Mira.Nair's feminist movies from feminist theory. Researching on feminist director art of Mira.Nair, can make a sense for getting progress and development and keep nationality and realistic of Chinese feminist movies. Researching on feminist director art of Mira.Nair also can make important significance for Chinese audiences accept Chinese feminist movies.
