| With the development of Chinese economy and open, the need of teaching Chinese language worldwide has increased rapidly, Chinese teaching and Chinese language promotion is developing in various forms with enormous needs. The study on Chinese teaching in certain countries and areas will not only accord with the present state of Chinese teaching and meet their need, but also be a historic program in Chinese language promotion. The Chinese teaching and Chinese language promotion in Thailand has become an example for other countries with its speed development and fruitful achievements, which shows to some extent the development of Chinese promotion. In this thesis, the author carries out the survey towards its history and present state with abundant first-hand resource and teaching experience in Thailand, on which the study analysis, the innovative conclusion and feasible advice is based. The analysis will provide the resource, extend the theory and guide actual teaching in both Chinese teaching and Chinese language promotion in Thailand and the Chinese language promotion worldwide.The 300-year Chinese teaching in Thailand has undergone four periods, which is the beginning, setback during the Second World War, the short flourish and decline after the Second World War and the renewal after China and Thailand established diplomatic relations. After 1990s, the Chinese popularity kept developing in fast speed and Chinese teaching and Chinese language promotion came into a unprecedented flourish period, the reasons are in three aspects: the business and trade between the two countries has extended, the bilateral friendly relation has developed with political credits and the two countries share a lot of common culturally, including the historical sensation and attract by Chinese culture with Chinese language and characters to Thai people, especially overseas Chinese. These three aspects supplement each other and form the actuality of Chinese teaching flourish in various forms. So far, the Chinese teaching and promotion display the trend of diversification by means of learner, in the way of study. This trend can be found in schools and colleges as well as in Chinese language center and Confucius Institutes (Classes).At the same time, some problems exist in Chinese teaching and Chinese language promotion, such as the teaching progress is slow in Primary and Secondary Schools, lack of teachers and people with high Chinese level and so on. In order to have a comprehensive understanding on Thailand Chinese teaching and Chinese language promotion, the author carries out investigation on Primary and Secondary School students, Chinese teachers of Thai nationality and volunteer Chinese teachers by methods of questionnaire, telephone and individual interviews. The result turns out that although most Primary and Secondary School students are interested in Chinese learning and Chinese teachers, they don't have the clear aim with fear of failure and incompletely understanding towards China; Most Chinese teachers of Thai nationality are satisfied with their occupation and desire to improve their teaching ability with awareness of not competent in teaching Chinese, they want chances provided by government and other institutes; Volunteer Chinese teachers have a high sense of responsibility and commission to spread Chinese language and culture by themselves as the window of communication, and the class is attractive to some extent, but they have a bewilderment of communication, and their ability of class organization and inter-cultural communication need to be improved.In order to solve the problems stated above, the author makes brief analysis and gives feasible advices. The solution of problems needs the mutual efforts from Chinese and Thai governments and those from all around the society. The Thai government should strengthen the regulation management of Chinese teaching and Chinese language promotion, work out teaching syllabus and strengthen the construction of Chinese teachers; Chinese government and other social groups should increase the number of Chinese teachers, assist Thai government to work out Chinese teaching syllabus, make progress in Chinese textbook compilation, make good use of Confucius Institute and set a good national image. |
