| In the western music history, almost all great composers compose works for piano. The research to these great pianists also becomes an important program of piano artistry. In the history of piano, men pianists dominate piano performance. However, considerable women pianists won in a lot of international piano competitions, more and more women selected performing piano as their career and some of them became great pianists in the 20th century.Based on the above-mentioned facts, four great women pianists of the 20th century - Rosalyn Tureck, Alicia de Larrocha, Gu Shengying and Maria Joao Pires are researched in terms of their biographies, art of performance and analysis of works performed. The discrepancy regarding physiology and psychology between men pianists and women pianists, as well as required condition and difficulties of achieving success in the area of piano performance, is analyzed based on the social role of women. |
