Wen Xin Diao Long is a bright pearl in Chinese ancient literary theory and aesthetic theory. Its ideas, theories and viewpoints are moving towards world gradually along with"Long study"research. The"Long study"research has began with the edition, collate, annotation since Tang Dynasty. Later on it develops into the study of theory and aesthetic proposition. Since 20th century, the"Long study"research has been concerned with many propositions, such as creative theory, writer theory, style theory and some other categories such as Bixing, Yinxiu, Fenggu. Liu Xie'idea on Wenzhi is an important issue in the research of"Long study". This paper will make a further discussion. This paper consists of four chapters. The first chapter makes a general discussion about the research of Liu Xie'idea on Wenzhi since the middle and later period of 20th Century. This paper broadly divides present research into four categories: Firstly, theory of content and form, represented by Guo Shaoyu , Wang Wensheng, and Mu Kehong ; Secondly, theory of emotion'twice conversion, represented by the views of Tong Qingbing ; Thirdly, theory of denying the content and form is the views of Mo Bai and Guo Waicen. Fourthly, the expansion horizon of the research, views of Lai Qinfang and Bai Chunxiang are typical. Base on classification above, a entered point of further interpretation will be found. The second chapter explores the evolvement of the meaning of Wenzhi from pre-Qin to Wei and Jin Dynasty, analyzes the process how it develops from the category of sociology and ethics to the category of literary theory. The process is as follows: The category of Wenzhi produced in pre-Qin. Pre-Qin scholars'theory of Wenzhi mainly concerns with personal cultivation and the perspective of the country management. The theory of Wenzhi in this period implies the possibility of expanding to the literary theory; Han dynasty is a developing period for the theory of Wenzhi. The theory of Wenzhi in this period changes from appreciation of people and discussion of society to the field of literary creation. The connotation of Wenzhi gains a further development on aesthetic dimension. The period of Wei and Jin is the mature phase to Wenzhi. In this age the theory of Wenzhi gains various developments in the literary field and forms a relative complete theory. Basing on the analysis above, the study field of Liu Xie'idea on Wenzhi can ensured. The third chapter mainly argues the meaning of Liu Xie'idea on Wenzhi profoundly base on the text Wen Xin Diao Long. Firstly, makes sure the aesthetic connotation of Zhi and Wen in Liu Xie'idea. In Liu Xie'theory system, emotion is the first element in Zhi'connotation and its alternation controlled by the nature. It is the writer'real feeling. And at the same time, contains the rational elements and chose by it. Liu Xie classifies Wen into"Shengwen""Qingwen"and"Xingwen"which not only makes the pattern of Wen but also provides three available approaches. Secondly is the analysis of the relationship between Wen and Zhi. Liu Xie'comprehension draws upon the traditional thought of Confucius. He claims the unification of Wen and Zhi. But it is not absolute equality. He insists on emotion is in a dominant position basing on the unity of Wen and Zhi. He also pays high attention on Wen simultaneously. Next Liu Xie explains the relationship between Wen and Zhi in his creative theory. In the creative process, Liu Xie thinks that if there were no Dong and Fa in Zhi there would not appear the Xing and Xian in discourse style. Liu Xie places Qingzhi and Shiyi on the most important position. Cicai and Gongshang which are in subordinate position. Although secondary they should not be neglected. On the extracting of the word and meaning, Liu Xie advocates extraction of the meaning firstly according of Sanzhun, when cutting down the word which should not influence the content expression. The last one is Liu Xie's idea on different requirement to the different literary form. To pure literature, he advocates that both Wen and Zhi are important. And Cai must be adopted. To literature-like works, he thinks that Zhi is more important than Wen. To non-literature, he asks for terseness and precision, ignores Cai.The forth chapter brings Fenggu into Liu Xie'system of Winzhi ideas, expounds that Fenggu and cai is Liu Xie'ideal Wenzhi style. Firstly, elaborates the unification of Wen and Zhi is the main clue in Wen Xin Diao Long. Fenggu belongs to the category of Wenzhi, it's a part of Liuxie's thought of Wenzhi. After that , elaborate Fenggu is the concrete requirement of Zhi and Wen. Lastly expounds Fenggu and cai is Liu Xie'ideal Wenzhi style. In the conclusion, the value and insufficient of Liu Xie'ideas on Wenzhi and the limitations of this paper will be explained.
