Hajin, a famous Chinese-American, his novel mainly takes the 1970s to 1980s' northeast China as the background. Observing from microcosmic point of view of the common people, he used objective writing method to analyze the weakness in human nature. As a writer whose has double culture background, he has described many characters that with nice but complicated consciousness, which showed that he possessed not only deeply Chinese traditional culture but also modern western spirit. This is the unique trait in his novel.This paper uses Ha Jin's two works as the object. Integrate writer's living period, society and culture background and uses depth psychology theory, the author wants to excavate the writer's thought conflict, discuss his modern self consciousness and consideration to Chinese society in the late of the 20th century.The paper consists three parts. Part I use the "Polyphony Theory" to analyze the voice of the "self in Ha Jin's work, and then discusses how interpersonal meanings are generally realized through the usage of dialogistic prediction, participants and dialogistic strategies; and concludes that dialogistic analysis is applicable in exploring interpersonal meaning in Ha Jin's work; Part II integrate Freud Sigmund's id,ego and superego theory and John Fowles's "nemo" theory with the version analysis, explore the characters' consciousness and in the novel in order to prove that they have the anti-self consciousness; Part III Through exploring the conflict between the inside human consciousness and outside world, points out that writer has special understanding about the "alienation" and a deeply though about the human' living condition and self-dimensions in modern society; The concluding through contrast Ha Jin's two novels with his experiences, reveals that the double culture background and its evolution that the writer has are the main cause of the postmodernist consciousness in his works and considers that Ha Jin's novel has special artistic feature and academic value. |
