Huangjingren (1794-1783), also named Zhongze, the author of "the set of Liangdang Xuan ", is a famous poet in Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty. His poem mainly describes the frustrations and the poverty of the reality and shows an aloof and proud personality. He achieved a lot and was praised as "the top poet in Qianlong period (which lasts for sixty years)". He has a great influence on future generations and is worthy of study. From the May 4th period to today, many scholars have been paying attention to Huangzhongze but generally speaking, the research of the poet does not live up to his influence and his status in poetry. Based on the former research of others, this paper analyzes the poet and his poem from the following aspects:Chapter One tells the life story of the poet. It introduces the short and misery life of the poet. Born at a literate rural area, he was very talented while proud and aloof. He lived in a prosperous society but suffered frustration in his official career, which led to poverty and misery. He is the representative of the sorehead. And then, it analyzes the miserable life of the poet. His aloof and proud character, devoting himself to writing poem, all this contradicted to the style of the times with the characteristic of prevalence of Bagu system and textual research. And this is the root of the poet's tragedy.Chapter Two is about the creating of the poem. Firstly, it outlines the creative situation of the poet, consisting three stages, namely, the rise of the poetic style, the stereotypes of the poetic style and continual of the creation. And then conducts a probe into the theme tropism of the poem, including poems which express his possessing unrecognized talent and his poverty and misery, sentimental love poems which recall the good memories of the love story and express the sentiments, traveling and landscape poems which chant the beautiful scenic spots and poems which are sentimentally attached to friendship.Chapter three analysizes the style of Huang's poetry. In this chapter, his poetic style is firstly analysized, i.e., an integration of sorrow and casual elegant of both pride and grief. Then, it expounds his unique system and his poetic aesthetic images. Finally, the origin of the poetry is discussed. Zhongze's poetry has the characteristic of both Labia's (a very famous poet in Tang Dynasty) romantic and elegant poetic style and the sorrow and solemn caused by the tragic situation of desolation. His love poetry is similar to Li Shangyin's sentimental poetic style. It then analyzes the similarities and differences between their poetry styles.Chapter Four discusses Huang Zhongze and Changzhou culture. In Changzhou, owning a long history and culture, the humanities were most flourishing in the reigns of Qianlong Emperor and Jiaqing Emperor, when many literature organizations and academic societies appeared, such as the Seven Great Masters of Piling (also called Piling Poetry School), Changzhou Poetry School, Yanghu Literature School, Changzhou Academic School, etc., earning the city its fame as "the poetry state throughout the whole country". Thus, the flourishing regional culture of Changzhou nourished the development of poets, and promoted poets' creation. The feature of Changzhou culture was well-known for being sturdy, and the literati in Piling, who were influenced by the culture of its neighbors' and most of whom were down and out, were characterized by their candidness, honesty, simpleness and straightforwardness. Piling poetry were wide-ranging with a tasteful style. As one of the Seven Great Masters of Piling, Huang Zhongze embodied the mutual characteristics of Piling literati from his personal character, his poetry creation to his fortune of life.Chapter Five analyses the influence of Huang Zhongze's poetry on posterity. The wide influence of Huang Zhongze's poetry on posterity is outlined. The significance of his poetry on cognition and aesthetic is analysed. Two highlighted reasons why Huang's poetry have been very popular with the posterity are explained: firstly, the symbolic significance of Huang Zhongze lies in his typicalness of the down-and-out literati in ancient China, and therefore, his grieving experience can easily arouse sympathetic response from the intellectuals at the bottom of the feudal society; secondly, Huang's poetry conveys his true feelings, being of high aesthetic significance, and the deep, sincere, meandering, depressed and resentful emotions reflected in his poetry and the loneliness conveyed are a real release of the poet's soul, so Huang's poetry are deeply infectious, which influences and affects more and more contemporary readers.By discussing the aspects above, the author tries to make a full and deep exploring on Huang Zhongze's poetry, and make an objective and accurate analysis on it, expecting that the deficiency of the study on Huang Zhongze should be made up. |
