Abstract/Summary:
Generally speaking, MacIntyre's concept of practice is used strictly. The strict use gives the concept an innovative and distinctive meaning. It is the cornerstone of his political ethics and intensely embodies his practical ideology even his whole philosophy. The concept is put forward in line with the demand of historical development and his logic of ideological development. It has obviously virtuous, communal, and historical characteristics and directly reflected in the specific interpretation of a number of practical issues related. So it has great theoretical and practical significance. It originates from the Western philosophy especially Aristotle's traditional philosophy of practice. But they are not completely same with each other. And it has many things in common with the Marxism's concept of practice but with the principled distinction.Faced with the prevailing moral crisis of current society, the raising of this concept can absolutely be a panacea to save hearts of numbed people who indulge themselves in social utility and forget the moral progress. This is MacIntyre's exploits which we can not blot out. But further enquire into the basic tendency of his theory, the defect is also inevitable.Based on the analysis of its statement, we revealed the connotation and extension of this concept and further enquired into the inner basis of this concept (virtue, communism and history). By analyzing we know why MacIntyre put the concept on the three basic reasons. It is mainly because of the interdependent and indivisible close contact between practice and Virtue, practice and community, practice and history. At this point, we already have a more in-depth understanding of MacIntyre's the concept of practice. However, understanding does not mean recognition. We must transcend it. Inherit its merits and abandon its dross. Therefore, this paper compared it with the practical tradition of Aristotle which was strongly advocated to restore by MacIntyre and the Marxism's concept of the practice which MacIntyre once fascinated. By comparison the connotation and the problems of this concept are further highlighted.Based on the above analysis and comparison, the article stated the meaning of the concept in the last part. At the same time, we further pointed out the challenges and problems of it, made a further exploration and reached some useful enlightenment.
