Transitivity approach to discourse analysis began in early 1970s. Then, transitivity analysis has been applied to various types of discourse for decades. With Halliday's functional grammar further explored and applied to a variety of fields of social science nowadays, the goal of discourse analysis is directed more concentrating to the positive impacts to society through analyzing language. And the advertisement text has aroused more and more linguists' interest in recent years. The present study will be on the transitivity analysis of recruitment advertising texts in English from the view of systemic functional grammar.This thesis applies the qualitative study to transitivity analysis of English recruitment advertising texts in order to fulfill the objectivity of working out the transitivity features of recruitment advertisements and revealing the discourse functions of each transitivity type 10 pieces of recruitment advertising texts have been collected from the recruiting websites of some Global 500 to carry out the classified comparison, and the research results are displayed by figure, which can show its transitivity features more directly.The study shows, three main process types occur in recruitment advertising texts among six process types, in which material type appears most frequently; among the supposed three main participants, namely, the company, the reader, and the job itself, the company and the reader most frequently appear as main participant in different process types. Moreover, the pragmatic functions of each transitivity type in recruitment advertisements are revealed along with the analysis, which all serve for attracting readers and seeking talents.Recognizing transitivity patterns in recruitment advertising texts is the first important step to analyze and decode the hidden meanings. Once they have been made visible, then we can easily explain some choices of words might be related with the demanding of text.It is hoped that after reading this paper, English recruitment advertisements readers can raise the awareness of perceiving unconscious viewpoints in recruitment advertising texts and be guided to have deeper cognition and to penetrate the language itself; on the other hand, the writer of recruitment advertisement can choose better words and structures to meet their goal according to the thesis.
