Research On Recreation Motivations Of City Park Recreationists In Changsha City

With the development of economy, the construction of cities has been progressing and the construction and development of city parks have become one of the hot issues among people. Understanding of recreational motives is key to constructing satisfying and sustainable city parks. The thesis, based on the introduction of motivation theories, makes use of sampling method to acquire fundmental statistics and statistical analysis to analyze recreational motives of city park recreationists in Changsha city.The thesis contains five chapters. The first chapter is to introduce the research background, research significance and research approaches. The second chapter is to define some basic concepts and to elaborate motivation theories, recreation demand theories applied in the thesis. The third chapter is to introduce the developments of urban parks in Changsha, among which the city park is chosen and introduced as a case study and to make an empirical study of recreationists' motivations of city parks in Changsha. The fourth part is to conclude the thesis in which some propositions are put forward.The study shows that the motivations for city park recreation are various and six main motivations are included: scenic spot attraction, requirement and enjoyment, physical health, affection, conformity and relaxation and leisure, among which physical health,affection and scenic spot attraction are the top three factors driving citizen to city parks. It also shows that different recreationists have different recreation demand due to different individual characteristics. The motivations for scenic spot attraction are different owing to different incomes, the motivations for requirement and enjoyment are remarkably different because of different tourist ages ,education background and vocations, the motivation of affection are remarkably different on account of different ages, vocations and incomes, the motivation for physical health are different because of different education backgrounds and professions while the motivations for relaxation and leisure and of conformity are not statistically different.
