Shen Congwen and Yasunari Kawabata, the literary giants in the Eastern countries, China and Japan, show a surprising similarity in their asethetical pursuit in their respective literary world. The reason why the dissertation aims at the comparative study on the two influential writers in the world lies in the fact that which has obvious literary significance under the globalization context.To be more concrete, the dissertation carries on the comparative study from the following aspects which derive from their similary artistic creation: psychological trends, thoughts and feelings, the spiritual realm, aesthetic pursuit. The first chapter focuses on human common problems to analyze the philosophic theory expressed by Shen Congwen and Yasunari Kawabata, including the love and beauty, death, histoty of mankind, etc. The second chapter puts the two writers in the postmodernity theory scope of vision. In regards to modern civilization, both Shen Congwen and Yasunari Kawabata's works present two opposed world, and they both approve of the folk culture full of harmony and hold critical attitude towards the modern civilization. Furthermore, they show their particular concern for the traditional national culture. Chapter III reseaches into the ideal world constructed meticulously by the two writers. Dispite Shen Congwen and Yasunari Kawabata choose simultaneously the lyric way to create their works, they hold a different approach to advocating the affinity between man and nature.
