During the process of globalization, interaction between China and foreign countries is becoming unprecedentedly frequent. In the course of association with foreigners, business English is widely used in every professional field. In the process of its usage, business English manifests distinctive and unique features, from lexical to discourse level. It is required to express the writer's views accurately in plain language that is clear and readily understood, catches the reader's attention and persuade him into believing what the writer means to say, thus makes business letter so special, businesslike and different from other branches.This thesis focuses on the analysis of business English with the aid of the theories of Stylistics. It starts from the introduction of theoretical foundation, and goes on analyzing business from both linguistic approach and non-linguistic or social linguistic approaches. In linguistic analysis, the writer attempts to present the characteristics of business English from lexical, syntactic and textual level. In non-linguistic analysis, the writer studies how social linguistic factors affect the styles of business English and in this part subjective and objective factors are analyzed respectively.This thesis intends to reveal the characteristic of business English letters from different perspectives, and the author hopes that it could make a little contribution to the study and teaching of English business letters.
