| Yihetuan Movement is a patriotic struggle of Chinese against imperialist invasion in modern times. For a long time the northeast Yihetuan with its unique fighting characteristics is considered as an important part of the national Yihetuan movement study. Among the study of northeast Yihetuan movement, the origin, the development, the fighting achievement, the patriotism and the external and internal policies of Qing dynasty central government, activities of important characters are always the places where the scholars pay close attention to. Although there is a large quantity of the northeast Yihetuan movement research achievement, the studies on the activities of northeast local government are few. What's more, the only few related studies are always analyzed from the aspect of political fighting. All of those local governors who socialize with Russian invaders are given the name of traitor or social climber, but missing their loyal aspect of taking up the responsibilities of guarding the frontier and caring people, ignoring their complex feeling of lost, sorrow and contradiction.Xianjunying, the protagonist in Gengxin Fengtian Letter Anthology was the governor of Fenghua county in Fengtian province. Those who have correspondences with him are mainly his relatives, friends, officials who all have some power. Among them, there do exist some major government officials from the authorities or counties in Jilin and Fengtian provinces. Although these correspondences are personal letters, they still have very precious historical values because some of them reflecting the information of the political changes, officialdom movement, the local governors'intricate feelings after Russian invasion, and the fighting of the local people against the Russian invaders. According to the correspondences between those local officials, the paper aims at taking this book as a point of penetration and provides an analyze of their attitudes towards the situation, how to deal with it, overcoming the difficulties and fulfilling their responsibility of caring the people and guarding the frontier. We could see that most of the local officers can take the interest of the nation as the utmost importance when confronting a powerful enemy. Before the war, they made a good preparation, while during the war, the southern part of Fengtian provinces formed an alliance with Qing dynasty army to fight against with foreign invaders and leaving lots of moving pages in history. After the war, the situation in the rear of the battle which is the northern part of Fengtian province's is perilous. Confronting the state of cruel Russian soldiers, the great amount of lamsters and bandits everywhere, the local officials give up the meaningless fighting against Russian invaders, but take up their responsibility of caring the people, stabilizing the locality and recovering the productivity. Different districts help each other, have good will with Russia, boycott the hamsters and get rid of bandits, then soon the Midwest situation of Fengtian province become stable and the people can live and work in peace. |
