Learning foreign languages is closely related with English learning motivation. But for the present research conditions, researchers seem to be engaged in the research on the classification of motivation in foreign language learning and lack the exploration of theoretical bases and pedagogic significance. So the writer, taking Incentive Teaching Approach as perspective and practical teaching activities as the starting point, studies the interdependent dialectical relationship among Incentive Teaching Approach, foreign languages study and learning motivation in terms of theory and practice. In educational psychology, incentive refers to strengthening, guiding and maintaining behavioral activities or courses by influencing people's internal need or motivation. The nature of incentive is to stimulate people's motivation. Incentive Teaching Approach is a course of improving teaching efficiency and completing teaching tasks successfully in which teachers stimulate students'learning motivation by means of certain ways and methods in their course of teaching, which can produce an internal driving force and induce students to participate in learning positively and work hard for their expected targets. That is, a course of arousing the initiative, enthusiasm and involvement of students in study. Incentive Teaching Approach associates incentive with motivation. Under the guidance of educational theories, teachers should arouse the students'incentive to learning foreign languages and improve their interest in learning foreign languages by using various incentive skills. Therefore, in theory, using Incentive Teaching Approach has a positive effect on students'learning foreign languages. The thesis consists of six parts. The first part clarifies the theoretical and practical significance of research on Incentive Teaching Approach. The second part describes the emergence and development of Incentive Teaching Approach. The third part sums up the theoretical foundation of Incentive Teaching approach. The results show that most students have instrumental motivation, and they have no interest in learning English and lack good study methods. Meanwhile, most of them think that teachers'incentive can help them enhance their self-confidence and stimulate their English learning motivation. The fifth part proposes some suggestions of applying incentive teaching approaches effectively to college English teaching:enhancing the consciousness of applying Incentive Teaching Approach; factors that should be paid attention to in applying Incentive Teaching Approach; mastering the applied skills of Teaching Approach. The sixth part points out the matters needing attention in using Incentive Teaching Approach. The thesis summarizes and analyses the problems of college English teaching in applying Incentive Teaching Approach on the basis of the existing documents. With the help of an empirical study, the writer combines theory with practice and proposes some suggestions of applying Incentive Teaching Approach effectively to college English teaching with the expectation of providing references for other teachers in using Incentive Teaching Approach.
