As an important writer of the whole literary history in Chinese New Epoch, Tie Ning as a unique presence cannot be ignored. The specificities of her works were prominently displayed in her later novels in which the author explores the human nature sedulously. Although there are solely four novels in the later period of Tie Ning's creation, these works make her a high position in Chinese literary scene because these books dig much deep in the human nature. However, with the publication of The City of No Rain as a best-selling book, we have not paid higher attention on the literary value of it. With a recent novel The Local Cotton published in 2006, the research on it is also relatively weaker. Consequently, we should make an overall, systematic and very deep study of Tie Ning's novels, and in the meantime clearly define their significances and contributions in the history of the Chinese New Epoch literature. This thesis, which explores in Tie Ning's novels the human nature as a core, adopts the study methods that combine the support of theories with the clarification of texts, analyzes the novels of Tie Ning in a multi-level and multi-directional way, and reveals the unique features of the creation of Tie Ning's novels. The thesis includes five parts, Preface, Bodies including three chapters and End. Now, I make an abstract of the paper as follows:Preface: review and summarize the creation of Tie Ning's novels, designating the unique value of them in the demonstration and reflection of human nature, and the relative deficiency of research in Chinese academia. The first chapter: in every novel written by Tie Ning, having a definite historical background―periods of Chinese society in transition of 20 century; possessing a common geographical sky―the plain of the north of China. The chapter commands these two characteristics, and from Chinese history, society to national culture , i.e. from vertical, horizontal to deep three levels, tests the reflection of the subject of human nature in Tie Ning's novels. The second chapter: it is in the specific historical periods and social spaces that the human nature is prominently displayed. Shifting from the outer living space of human to inner point, Tie Ning, taking advantage of her scrutinizing eyes, has drawn a vivid and unique picture of the human nature including distortions and goodness that makes a great contribution to the Chinese Contemporary Literature, for instance, envy and resentment complex, mistakes and guilty in childhood, peeping, abused, self-flagellation and sadism, caring and loyalty, and so forth. These human nature are interrogation of sin and praise of virtue that Tie Ning takes all her life to experience. The third chapter: analyze the road of salvation that Tie Ning devised for the characters in her novels. They were sunk into material temptations, or struck with the patriarchal society, or struggled with the sex and politics, or scrubbed their dirty hearts by themselves. In the end, the better humanity was taken back by the way of the infiltration of Chinese traditional culture. In her works, Tie Ning completed the journey of human spirits in exploring the human nature, and revealed the sense of compassion and the warmth of feeling to the whole humanity.End: review and summarize the creation of Tie Ning's novels, specifying the unique value and special contribution of them in the Chinese Contemporary Literature.
