College English teachers have heavily workload. They are not only facing the stress from society,university and students, but also having stress from improving themselves and learning new knowledge. Various stresses cause different standard burnout. Therefore, a demonstration study on working stress and job burnout is carried out in this paper. And then, some suggestion was given to reduce them.Founded on the review of previous studies, the design of mine is specified and then the hypotheses are put forward. They are confirmed by using serious statistical analysis on the data collected through questionnaires. The main conclusions are listed.1.Generally, the working stress of college English teachers is not serious. It's less than medium. The factors from high to low are working load, working interest, teaching pledge, working pledge and relationship.2. The job burnout of college English teachers is quite light, but the emotional exhaustion, (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and diminished personal accomplishment are three dimensions of Educator Burnout Inventory) is a little serious, almost to the median.3. The working stress of college English teachers who have different ages, different working times, different genders and different diplomas is different significantly. Besides associate professors, the job burnout of college English teachers who are in their 36—40 or have 10 to 20 years working ages are more serious. Female teachers have higher personal accomplishments than male teachers and masters are more serious on depersonalization than bachelors. However,college English teachers of those who come from different types of universities are not showing obvious difference.4. Working load, working interest and teaching pledge can predicate job burnout significantly. On the specific dimension , teaching pledge,working interest and working pledge can predicate emotional exhaustion obviously; working load and relationship can predicate depersonalization significantly and working load can significantly predicate diminished personal accomplishment too.
