| This study is based on a discourse analysis approach to understand the relationship between linguistic research and culture, as well as the broader development and recent changes of western hegemony in China.The history of discourse studies is not very long. Since it is an applied linguistics, it can be combined with different disciplines to make research. The author lists some of the current discourse studies, as a comparison to the application of cultural perspective in this paper.Language always goes hand in hand with culture. However, they also possess unique features respectively, which make sure the link of them for studies on western hegemony.To discern the present status and changes of cultural relationship, and its implications, the author offers an original data study of linguistics journals in China. By comparison of the figures during 20 years, and on the basis of the corresponding theories presented, the author shows historical changes of cultural factors in the linguistics journals in China. It will be seen that along with the wider cultural change in China, linguistic research in the Chinese journal under study also shifts in cultural concepts, theories, and methods. Although western culture remains an influential factor in the Chinese linguistics scene, the space that Chinese theories and methodologies take up has gradually expanded in recent years, which mirrors global decline of western imperialism and indicates the promising future that Chinese linguistic scholars may be able to construct their own theoretic system independently. |
