| This paper draws on Fairclough’s theoretical framework of "three-dimensional analysis of critical discourse",combines the theories of systematic-functional grammar and intertexturality, and uses inductive analysis and quantitative and qualitative combination method to analyze the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson’s response to reporters’ questions on Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan. This paper analyzes text, discourse practice and social practice from three dimensions, and studies how the spokesperson of Chinese Foreign Ministry refutes Western discourse hegemony and maintains China’s right of discourse by answering journalists’ questions. The main research contents are as follows:Chapter two analyzes the textual level of the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson’s answers to journalists, specifically analyzing two aspects of metaphorical vocabulary and modal vocabulary in the discourse. In terms of the analysis of metaphorical words, this paper summarizes the metaphorical words used by the spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs into four kinds of metaphors, such as absurd behavior, and analyzes the anti-discourse hegemony consciousness implied in these four kinds of metaphorical words. On the analysis of modal words, this paper takes the five most frequent modal auxiliary verbs in the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman’s answers to reporters as examples, and analyzes their frequency, collocation words and modal gradient, finding that the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman focuses on the use of high-gradient modal auxiliary verbs to create a serious and solemn discourse atmosphere and express a strong condemnation of Western discourse hegemony. The third chapter analyzes the discourse practice of the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson’s responses to journalists. This chapter combines the theory of "intertextuality" and analyzes two Specific intertextual means, namely "quotation" and "rhetorical devices" in the discourse. In the analysis of "quotation",the paper divides "quotation" into "other quotation" and "self-quotation" according to the cultural origin of the quoted discourse. It is found that Chinese foreign ministry spokespersons use the intertextual device of "quotation" to enhance the international credibility and historical and cultural support of their discourse practice against Western discourse hegemony. In the analysis of "rhetorical techniques",this paper finds that the Chinese foreign ministry spokesman repeatedly uses the rhetorical techniques of antithesis, contrast and prose to satirize and refute the Western discourse hegemony, thus better completing the discourse practice of opposing the Western discourse hegemony and safeguarding the Chinese national discourse.Chapter four analyzes the social practice dimension of the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson’s responses to journalists. This chapter explores the social practice of discourse by combining the reflective and constructive functions of discourse. The following conclusions are drawn from the analysis: First,on the level of discourse reflecting function, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman’s question-and-answer session reflects the social reality related to the United States’ discourse hegemony over China on the Taiwan Strait question in recent years, while reflecting China’s stern refutation of Western discourse hegemony.Second,on the level of discourse construction, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman’s answers to reporters construct the image of China as a strong country that does not tolerate bullying by other countries and the image of China as a responsible power that actively maintains the world discourse order. |
