In modern times, exchanges of cultures in different countries are becoming more and more frequent, especially in contemporary China. To better promote Chinese culture, we shall absorb more nourishment form the world civilization. Chuang-Tzu's Taorism has a tremendous impact on Chinese nation. However, opinions are divided on its impact. Every coin has two sides. It matters much how we employ and develop it.Chuang-Tzu and Rousseau lived in different times, nevertheless they share similarities in many ways, which makes it possible for us to appreciate their spirit. Based on this, this article deals with the comparison between spirits of Chuang-Tzu and Rousseau. It falls into four chapters. The first chapter analyses comparability of Chuang-Tzu and Rousseau which leads to the body of the article. The second chapter deals with the similarities between Chuang-Tzu and Rousseau. It is divided into four parts. The first part expands on the outlook of nature in Chuang-Tzu and Rousseau's ideological basis. The second part emphasizes the criticism on alienation of their ideological basis. The third part exemplifies their final solution to doctrine of back–to- the ancients when they resolve the issue of social inclination of alienation. The fourth part analyses other similarities of the two. Chapter three analyses differences between Chuang-Tzu and Rousseau. It falls into four parts and expands on the ideological discrepancy in different aspects. Chapter four analyses their thoughts and the implications of the comparison. First it analyses the plight of survival of the mankind. Then it deals with the implications of their thoughts respectively and finally draws the conclusion that the comparison between Chuang-Tzu and Rousseau has profound implications.By analysis, we may discover the positive and negative influence of Chuang-Tzu's thoughts while we shall utilize and learn from Rousseau's thoughts on human rights.
