Between "Revolution" And "Romance"

In modern society, multiple politics and ideology and relatively harmonious period provide a peaceful background and a possibility of academic research for an objective study of the essay's value. Some famous litterateur's prose works became a half-edge or edge literature in the particular historical environment at that time. However, time passes and the situation has changed, nowadays, their literary works have become a favorite again. So, how to use a modern academic perspective with the method of case study to achieve the triple purpose: Revealing the case itself, that is, Feng Zikai's and Liang Shiqiu's essays containing rich aesthetic features,aesthetic purport, aesthetic ideology and aesthetic paradigm; showing the unique aesthetic value of essay's literary style in the literature and arts garden so as to offer a possibility of the theory to the development of essay in current society of consumption; filling an academic gap on the field of essay study in our literature and literary history research is the anticipated objective which this subject is envisaged in.First, this paper is planning to define the time limit of the research object, namely, Feng Zikai's and Liang Shiqiu's essays on aesthetics study and explain the overall aesthetic canons or requirements, tastefulness or beauty in this period in detail at the same time in order to supply case aesthetic studies with a relatively broad background. In the second place, this paper studies the specific writer's essays on the aesthetics inquiring Feng Zikai's and Liang Shiqiu's their unique, aesthetic ideology, aesthetic features, and their prose cultural character from the aspects of the secular culture background, philosophical ideology origin and writers'self-cultivation respectively. Although living in the same historical situations the two writers are representatives of two different creation trends. Feng Zikai's essay is such perfect combination of the reality content and art forms of essay as to make it a higher function and aesthetic value. Liang Shiqiu's essay is on behalf of pure literature which seems to be no value at that time, but results in a higher academic research value in the background of current culture of consumption. The paper explores the value and significance of essay's literature genre in the specific historical background from the aesthetic study of these two writers'essays nowadays.Last but not the least, this paper makes a clear determination on Feng Zikai's and Liang Shiqiu's aesthetic choices and re-determine and redefine "revolution" and "romantic" with aesthetic sense. In this new meaning, their aesthetic choices reflect the different facets of Confucian traditional aesthetic thinking so that the study on individual returns to the background of the history reflecting the charm of China's traditional aesthetic ideology.
