As China's increasingly frequent connection with the world, especially after China's entry into the WTO and wining the2008 Olympic bid, oral English has gained great concern. So, the improvement of students' oral English is dramatically demanded.Task-based language teaching, lately developed from the Communicative Method, is considered as one of the most effective language teaching methods of the 1980s. It emphasizes "learning by doing" and provides opportunities for the learners to improve their speaking skills through authentic, functional speaking activities. This paper has aimed at investigating the effect of implicating task-based method to spoken English. First, some theories relevant to TBLT are presented. Then an experiment is designed based on a task-based pedagogy and lasted for one semester and involved 62 freshmen majoring in English. Both the quantitative and qualitative results of the program indicate that task-based language teaching has had a better effect to improve students' oral proficiency than the traditional teaching method, and that the program is able to significantly enhance the subjects' English learning motivations. Finally, a conclusion is drawn from the research, including the findings, implication and the limitation.
