| Under the two trends of thought, globalization and localization, the writers and their works with multicultural background and in the position of The Other due to cultural and gender identities have been paid more and more attention. Under such situation, as a brand new paradigm and perspective of research, cultural studies affords a new methodology different from the traditional literary criticism. With the Belgian female writer Amelie Nothomb as the research topic, this thesis will combine close reading and cultural background to explore the sense of cultural and gender identities showed in Nothomb's works with reference to post colonialism and feminism as well as image studies and sociology. With the aim of deepening the research in our country on Nothomb's works, the thesis tries to emphasize the text study with sociology from the cultural perspective and to afford some beneficial reference for the validness of post colonialism and feminism.The first part of the thesis is the introduction, which gives a literary review of post colonialism and feminism under the current of globalization, denotes the academic background of the research and explains the reason why Nothomb's works are chosen for the research.The second part is the main body, which on the basis of close reading analyzes the connotations of cultural identity and gender identity embodied in Nothomb's works as well as the significance of sociology. The third part starts from the social influence of the works, analyzes the cultural and social background for the works' salability, probes into the function post colonialism and feminism have had during the spread, and then explores the applicability and significance of these two theories under the circumstance of globalization.The last part is the conclusion, which on the basis of summarizing the whole thesis, points out the significance of works such as Nothomb's has had on how to treat cultural and gender discrepancies, how to eliminate the cultural estrangement and rivalry and then how to realize the mutual communication and equal discourse among different cultures. |
