Under different social-historical backgrounds, there were different mental health models. The main aim of this study was to construct a positive mental health model theoretically and test it using questionnaire method with college students of grade 2 and grade 3 as the major participants. After a general review of former researches, the mental health model of happy enterprising individual was constructed based upon the theory of perfect personality developed by Professor Xiting Huang. This model was constructed after the modification and validation by the exploring factor analysis of the preliminary questionnaire with 816 students investigated and the confirmatory factor analysis of the formal questionnaire with 830 students investigated. The mental health of happy enterprising individual questionnaire of university students was examined by many indexes. The results of this study were as follows:1. The mental health of happy enterprising individual was a multi-dimensional model with two related cores of well-being and enterprising, including six dimensions as following: study-growth, interpersonal relation, self-affirmation, goal-management, hardness-conquer, and weH-being.2. The test-retest reliability, internal concordance coefficient (Cronbach a coefficient), content validity, construct validity and index validity of the mental health model of happy enterprising individual questionnaire were good. This questionnaire could be used to test the mental health of happy enterprising individual of university students.3. There were significant sex differences in self-affirmation, goal-management and hardness-conquer: males are better than females. There were significant grade differences in interpersonal relation, grade one were higher than grade two. It showed significant area differences in all dimensions and the total scores, and it seemed that the scores of north students were higher than south students. The interactions between sexes, grades, areas and ages can be seen in some dimensions and total scores.
