A Research On The Final System Of The Menggu Ziyun

Based on relevant research of many linguists, this thesis discusses the final system of Menggu Ziyun. Through a thorough investigation into the writing system of'Phags-pa script and the configuration of Menggu Ziyun, I find a rule for the final sequence in the book: first discarding the first letters of all the syllable in the same rhyme group, then dividing the syllables into different groups based on the remain of each syllable.With such a rule and a new framework of the history of Chinese phonology, I discuss the final categories in Menggu Ziyun, and get 68 final categories and 66 finals in this book. Then I give my reconstruction of the finals.In the last chapter, I discuss the nature of the Rusheng Rhymes (entering rhymes) in Menggu Ziyun. I consider them to be the same as Yingsheng Rhymes (namely the finals without any consonantal coda ). That's to say, in my opinion, the Rusheng Rhymes in the book had lost their consonantal coda.
