The Comprehensive Analysis Of "Ba" Sentences In Modern Chinese

"Ba"sentence is not only one of special sentence patterns which are used in the higher frequency in modern Chinese, but also one specific syntactic character which distinguishes Chinese from other languages. As one traditional study of Chinese special sentence pattern,"Ba"sentence has been concerned about for a long time by scholars which accumulated abundant documents and materials. Since 1920s the study was first made by Li Jinxi, both oversea and domestic scholars have made profound researches on"Ba"sentence from different perspectives and achieved great progress. Previous studies are concerned with the internal structures and external structures of"Ba"sentences, which produced a great deal of considerable in-depth studies. Presently, the studies on semantic aspects are still not enough and the results vary a lot. It could be said that the omission of semantic understanding on"Ba"sentence has already become the bottleneck of studies on"Ba"sentence. However, the pragmatic studies on"Ba"sentence are still in an initiative stage, in which there is little literature on systematic study of"Ba"sentence's which are used in chapters.In view of the complexity of"Ba"sentence, the thesis holds that it is a mistake to analyze"Ba"sentence respectively from perspective of syntax, pragmatics, and semantics, which could only result in the partial understanding or false realization of"Ba"sentence. In this thesis,"Ba"sentences are analyzed comprehensively from the perspectives of syntax, semantics, and practices, with final purpose to reveal the conditions of using"Ba"sentences in chapters.The thesis first gives an intensive introduction of syntax restrictions of"Ba"sentence, and a brief introduction of the generation and origin of"Ba"sentence and then makes a thorough comparison and contrast between semantics of"Ba"sentences and that of their related transform sentences, based on idea of "Construction Grammar" and " integrative viewing", with findings of difference between their pragmatic expressions. Furthermore, the thesis briefly analyzes the pragmatics and text of"Ba"sentence on the basis of pragmatics and semantics, pointing out that"Ba"sentence has the language of adaptive characteristics. At the same time, the thesis makes a survey on the grammatical positions of"Ba"sentence in chapters and a brief description of the relationship between"Ba"sentence and the clauses before and after or the whole sentence, revealing the important text grammatical functions such as convergence and continuity of chapter, and modifications of chapter.At last, the thesis points out importance should be attached to the other social factors in addition to the factors of language users, such as geography, age, gender, etc., which have great influence on the use and choice of using"Ba"sentences, on the basis of previous studies which proposes many factors that restrict the use of"Ba"sentences.
