This thesis, based on art production theory of economics study, addresses the processes of creation, performance and circulation of music and dance art in Tang Dynasty as "production process". The art of music and dance in Tang Dynasty enjoys an unprecedented prosperity. However, this thesis will investigate the profit-making (commercial) production of music and dance in folk. The profit-making production of music and dance in folk in Tang Dynasty, classified according to the chief circulation mode, viz. production-consumption channel, can be divided into street performance mode of music and dance production, mansion performance mode of music and dance production, commercial-venue-attached mode of music and dance production, religious-site-attached mode of music and dance production, and folk-custom-attached mode of music and dance production.Proceeding from the historical data, this thesis, combining with the modern economics theories, makes investigation into the producer, organizational pattern, content, and features of each variety of profit-making music and dance production. Hence this thesis can assist us in understanding the musical commodity economy status in Tang Dynasty acquainting us with the details of music and dance prosperity in Tang Dynasty.
