Strange Things in the Past Twenty Years by Wu Jianren is regarded as one of the four criticisms of the late Qing Dynasty. This novel mainly reflected all sorts of strange activities in official and commercial circles in twenty Years of the late Qing Dynasty. The content of this novel was abundant which involved many aspects of the social life.This thesis mainly studies on the idiom's grammar structure in Strange Things in the Past Twenty Years. It first states the determinant criterion of the idiom and collects all the idioms in this novel in light of that determinant criterion. Combining quantitative and qualitative methods, and combining language and speech, this thesis makes a detailed Classifying of all the idioms in the grammar process, reveals the structures and styles of all the idioms.In the first chapter, it states the determinant criterion of the idiom and analysis the grammar structure. In this part, it mainly tells the definition of idiom, the determinant criterion of the idiom and the difference idea of the question that several scholars analysis the idiom structure, and put foreword the Classifying of idiom according with these.In the second chapter, it states the linking structure idioms. In this part it researches 240 linking structure idioms in Strange Things in the Past Twenty Years, there are 248 idioms that can be made off two parts; there are 12 idioms that can be made off 4 linking parts; there are 10 idioms that have difference grammar structure in 2 parts.In the third chapter, it states subject-predicate structure idioms. In this part it researches 127 subject-predicate structure idioms in Strange Things in the Past Twenty Years, we classify it to 6 difference style, and these are the subject + predicate style, the subject + predicate + object style, the subject + adverbial modifier + predicate style, the subject + adverbial modifier + predicate + object style, the subject + predicate + complement style, and the subject + predicate+ both subject and object + predicate style.In the forth chapter, it states modifier structure idioms. In this part it researches 74 modifier structure idioms in Strange Things in the Past Twenty Years, there are 30 idioms that are the attribute+ headword style; there are 44 idioms that are the adverbial modifier + headword style, so the adverbial modifier + headword style are more than the attribute+ headword style.In the fifth chapter, it states the verb-object structure idioms. In this part it researches 57modifier structure idioms in Strange Things in the Past Twenty Years. We classify it to 2 classes, there are 5 idioms that the verb is front of the object; there are 2 idioms that the object is in front of the verb. We analyzed the former deeply.In the sixth chapter, it states the supplement structure idioms. In this part it researches 24 supplement structure idioms in Strange Things in the Past Twenty Years. We classify it to 11 kind's difference style to analyze according with the grammar structure.In the seventh chapter, it states the linking-predicate structure idioms. In this part it researches 37 supplement structure idioms in Strange Things in the Past Twenty Years. We analyzed it from the grammar structure and semasiology. We divided this into 9 difference kinds to research according to the former; it can be divided into 4 kinds to study according to the later.In the eighth chapter, it states the both subject and object structure idioms. In this part it researches only 4 both subject and object structure idioms in Strange Things in the Past Twenty Years. We depict it in this part.In the ninth chapter, it states the complex structure idioms. In this part it researches 44 supplement structure idioms in Strange Things in the Past Twenty Years. We concluded 9 kind's difference semasiology styles by analyzing the 44 complex structure idioms.From the statistic data we know this: there are mass of the verb + object style that according to seriation in idioms, which identical the grammar rule today; there are little of the verb + object style that according to reverse order in idioms, which are the congeal and embodiment of the ancient Chinese's grammar phenomena in idiom. It shows that the grammar structure of idioms is one of the grammar structure behave of the Chinese.By analysis, this thesis shows the number of linking structure idioms is most, after which the successive number order is of modifier structure idioms, verb-object structure idioms, subject-predicate structure idioms, supplement structure idioms, linking-predicate structure idioms, complex structure idioms. The number of both subject and object structure idioms is littlest. The idiom's structure type in Strange Things in the Past Twenty Years is different from the type of modern Chinese language, which preserves the grammar of ancient language. This phenomenon materializes although the grammar structure of Chinese language is stabilization, yet it isn't invariable, it keeps a slow change in the prolonged history development process.
