Study On Dong Xuewen's Literary Thought

Dong Xuewen is one of the most active scholars of Marxism literary theory in contemporary China. Studying his literary thought has a great important significance to the construction of contemporary Chinese literary theory.Dong Xuewen's thought presents characteristic of "a body and four branches"."A body" refers to the contemporary shape of Marxism literary theory, on base of scientificity. Scientificity and contemporary shape constitutes of the body. Dong Xuewen believes Marxism is not only a belief, but also only historical materialism and dialectics can make literature's outside study and literature's inside study unified. By this, the literary theory can become a science."Four branches" includes four kinds of resources. Including: research on Marxism classical writers; translation and research on overseas literary theory; reconsidering and summary on Chinese literary theory; research on modern transformation of ancient literary theory.This article adopts the principle of historicism to accurately describe Dong Xuewen's literary theory and objectively appraise his academic pursue.
