Wu Bixia, a superior soprano who is called "a nightingale", successfully blends Chinese folk song singing method with Western opera singing method. The reason Wu achieved crossover between two sing methods is that based on a good command of these two characteristics, she skillfully mix them together to magically bring a unique charm when she performs. In the technique aspect, Wu explores the unison and difference of the two methods by comparing vocal sound, syllabication as well as physical strength and breath, thus she is able to freely combine and use for reference of the two unlike ways. More importantly, she studies from the angle of music expression and performing art to find a common point shared by both, which provides her a solid foundation for the singing performance. This article discusses that the Wu's exploration of singing methods not only succeeded herself, but also opened a door for Chinese singing performance and education. This door may not be the only path to become a successful crossover singer, and the imitation of her way may not even be necessary. Wu, however, modeled herself as a good example of pioneer that encourages the young singers to explore more possibilities of the singing world.
