Gelaozu is one of the oldest indigenous peoples on Guizhou Plateau, which has gradually formed colorful and unique culture in its long history ,whose "Wedding Lament" is representative of its marriage culture,and the "Wedding Lament" has profound cultural significance and implication.Before discussing the "Wedding Lament" , We must comprehend the origin of the convention of bride crying at a wedding, so that we are able to understand and master the meaning of the "Wedding Lament" of Gelaozu.In academic research on the origin of the "Wedding Lament",there are several theories,for example,the predatory marriage theory, the transition marriage theory and so on.However, whatever the theory can not fully explain the origin of the "Wedding Lament"of Gelaozu from one perspective. Combined with a large number of text information and personal investigations in the field, the author will discuss the origin of the "Wedding Lament" of Gelaozu from three tendencies.As to the origin of the convention of Gelaozu brides crying at the weddings, the ancient predatory marriage is the first probability,and the transition marriage is the second probability,because in transition from a matriarchal society to a patrilineal society ,the emergence of strong power of men leads to resistance of women,and then the third probability is that it is the product of Confucian ethics with the Chinese cultural convention input.There is rich content and varied of forms of the "Wedding Lament" of Gelaozu.Although which has been considerably affected by Hanzu "Wedding Lament", its uniqueness is still notable.It links with the unique psychological characteristics ,temperament,aspirations and ideals of Gelaozu,and it paints a pretty ethnic customs Genre Painting , imbued by the strong consciousness of resistance and national self-esteem, and embodies the sense of primitive religion of "Penny Totemism" and devout "ancestor worship" culture.
