Research On The College Students' Internet Addiction Disorder Status And Its Relationship With Life Events And Personality Traits

Internet addiction disorder is one of the hottest spot of thepsychological research recently. This article discusses the common statusand causes of the internet addiction disorder from the aspects of bothsocial and psychological factors. The aim is to discuss the influence ofInternet Behavior, Life Events,Personality Traits, and its forecast of theinternet addiction disorder tendency for college students in normalinternet application, so as to provide the theoretical guidance for thepsychological education and intervention of the college students.The article uses the whole random sampling methods to select 680college students from three universities in Inner Mongolia, and uses theCIAS-R, Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Check List, and EysenckPersonality Questionnaire (adult edition) to investigate and analyze theInternet addiction disorder of the college students. Finally draw thefollowing conclusion:(1)The internet addiction for college students has the significantdifference in gender, grade, and only-child or not. Male college studentshave higher tendency than the female; the students in Grade One are morelikely addictive than the other 3 grades; the only-child students havehigher tendencies than the non-only-child students.(2)The college students haven't the significant difference in nation,but they do have the significant difference in students' origin. Thestudents from urban area have higher tendency than the students from therural area.(3)The internet addiction disorder for college students has thesignificant correlation with the internet surfing time. Moreover, they havethe obvious difference in aims of internet utilization. The aim for game, entertainment, and chat will cause more internet addiction disordertendency than the aim for others, esp. the aim for study.(4)As for the college students in different degree of internetaddiction disorder tendency, they have the significant difference in thegross score of life events and the separate factor scores. The hightendency students of internet addiction are more likely affected by thenegative life events. The regression analysis shows the health factor andother factors of the life events can forecast the tendency of internetaddiction disorder to some extent.(5)The different internet addiction tendency students have thedifferent personality traits. The higher neurotic traits students have thehigher internet addiction tendency; introversion or extroversion has notthe significant correlation with the internet addiction tendency. Theregression analysis shows that the mental traits and the neurotic traits canforecast the internet addiction disorder to some extent.(6)The internet addiction disorder is the consequence of a lot offactors' affections directly or indirectly. Communication time, game time,life events, and the personality traits can directly forecast the students'internet addiction tendency; communication time, browsing time,and thepersonality traits can indirectly forecast the internet addiction tendencythrough the life events.
