This dissertation contains two chapters in addition to theintroduction, conclusion and the bibliography.In the introduction part, the author introduces the general situation ofthe research field, which is on the symbolic meanings of the numbers inthe Epic Janggar, and emphasizes the contribution of her study andpresents her research methodology.In the first chapter, the author classifies the different descriptions ofthe numbers of "3", "7" and "9" in the epic Janggar. And the symbolicmeanings of these descriptions are discussed In the chapter too.Concretely, the descriptions of the numbers include: description of thetime, description of the behavior, description of the generations,description of the universe, description of the supernatural, description ofthe power, description of the oaths, description of the profoundness anddescription of the decline etc. About the symbolic meanings of thenumbers of "3", "7" and "9", the author argues that "3" stands forstableness and perfection, "7" for flourishing, richness, border anddecline, and "9" for supernatural and luckiness.In the second chapter, the dissertation goes further discussing thesymbolism of the numbers of "3", "7" and "9" from the aspects ofsanctification and indication. Based on the above analyses, the authortries to explain the source of the symbolic meanings of the numbers thatare commonly used in the life, custom and religion of Mongolians.
