As a burgeoning branch of learning, vocal music psychology is the study of the mental processes that a person uses in performing vocal music. This cress-disciplinary science, based on both vocal music art and psychology, offers theoretical guidance to those who perform and study vocal music.In the composition of art music, vocal imagination plays an critical role. The ability of vocal imagination is the main predictor of a performer's talent. The performing of vocal music, a creative mental process, is based on vocal imagination, which makes an integrated part of composition. A performer with good imaginative talent is surely to perform well.Imagination, as way of understanding and describing the real world, has the function of exploring the nature of the world and turning emotion into ration. This paper discusses the significance of imagination in vocal music teaching and theoretical building. It helps the performers with the acquisation of related techniques and skills as well as deep understanding of a work..For audience, imagination makes abstract art forms more easily to be appreciated as if there were no limition in time and space. They fully enjoy their aesthetic conceptions, which can be sensed but can not be explained by words.
