To investigate the diet characteristics in the Zhou dynasty, thispassage had used the information in shijing, shangshu, yili, zuozhuan, guoyu and otherjinwen. The following is the contract of my passage.First but not least, the passage research into the problem of the influence of classon the diet characteristics in the Zhou dynasty. In my viewpoint, to all the class in theZhou dynasty, their diet characteristics lie on their social position: the nobility enjoyed alife of luxury and enough food supplies, but the civilian always had difficulties to gettwo ends meet, it is a Tragedy to them and some of them might die of starvation whenthey encountered natural hazard. It is the unfair wealth possession that lead to thephenomenon. In Zhou's feudalism, the dominator possessed main production means andthe civilian had nothing to rest with but their labors. Clearly, it is class that dominatedthe diet characteristics in all the social ranks. The passage described another diet characteristics in sacrifice. The people in theZhou dynasty take great respect to the God of heaven, the God of ground and the Godof ghost, there must be a sacrifice when festival was coming. Under the viewpoint thattheir daily foods was given by the God, they believed that it is reasonable to share themeat offering in the sacrifice. It is very important that all the numbers in the family takepart in the sacrifice. The sacrifice in the Zhou dynasty has the characteristics of loyaltyand family. The passage also described the diet characteristics in etiquette. The people in theZhou dynasty placed so much emphasis on the etiquette and all the social activitieswould be limited in the scope of etiquette. Diet activities was so common in people'sdaily lives that Zhou's etiquette had great connection with diet activities. Because themain functions the etiquette in the Zhou dynasty had played is distinguish superior classfrom lower class, so the diet has the characteristics of class. The passage also described the diet characteristics in the Conception of the peoplein the Zhou dynasty.
