Research On The Characteristics Of Yue (Music) Of Zhou Dynasty

"Zhou Yue" means the music in Zhou Dynasty. After the system of "Li-Yue" was established in Western Zhou Dynasty, the music civilization of Zhou Dynasty taked the supreme position in total period. All these, including Li-Yue as well as the civilization founded by Zhou, formed the initial characteristic of Chinese nation. "Zhou Yue" starts the resplendence of Chinese music culture, and shows the systemic music civilization of Zhou Dynasty.The thesis takes "Zhou Yue" as research object and it indicates "Zhou Yue" has important position in Chinese ancient music by studying the music culture of Zhou Dynasty and generalizing its musical characteristics. The historical outlook of "Zhou Yue", its composition, and its relationship with ritual, law and Confucianism of Zhou, are discussed in detail. As for the historical outlook, "Zhou Yue" experienced the union and disunion during its social development, so "Zhou Yue" shows synchronous characteristic of development in the two different period. As for the composition, the conversion from royal music to folk music is analysed, and the conversion of musical function from managing country to amusement is discussed from genre, geographic region, and social estate. As for the relation between "Zhou Yue" and Zhou's culture, "Zhou Yue" was intensely combined with ritual, law and Confucianism of Zhou's cultural system. The cultural soul of managing country with music gets elementary development and conformity.The thesis preliminarily summarizes and conducts research on "Zhou Yue", with its aims to unfold the musical characteristics of music study in Zhou Dynasty from multiple-angles and visual fields, and makes clear its value and importance in the history of Chinese music.
